Blue Jays are destroying my flower baskets?

I feed my birds everyday, but I don't like when they destroy my flower baskets?

Blue Jays are destroying my flower baskets?
Try putting a Red Cardinal in your bird feeder, that should make them happier!
Reply:OK, What are they doing to your flower baskets?

Are they taking dried stems to use as nest building material?

If that is the case maybe you can give them some dried stems, twigs and stuff thery can take instead.
Reply:Sprinkle chennyne pepper on top of the dirt and leaves. They don't like the smell and the pepper will not hurt anything.
Reply:You might consider this product. It's called scare tape. It catches the light and makes the claim that this keeps birds away. It's not expensive and even looks pretty, I think. Here is a link to a company that sells it, so you can at least see a picture of it. Most garden centers should carry it, or be able to get it for you:

Hope this helps!
Reply:When I had sunflower seeds in the birdfeeder, the jays would bury them and make an awful mess while they did it. I got a lot of unexpected sunflowers that way. All I can suggest is putting something in the flower baskets that they don't want to dig into, maybe put landscape cloth on them or small stones.
