This is probably the dumbest thing you've ever heard, but I want to plant some blue flowers around my dog's dog house, (who has blue eyes). Dumb? Maybe, but what are some summer flowering periannuals and annuals?
What are some blue summer flowering periannuals, and annnuals?
for perenial blue flowers there are blue hydrangea... keep the soil acid and they will stay blue and get bluer with added acid (muracid fertalizer)... there is also blue cranesbill.
Vinca Major has blue flowers and is a nice ground cover.
for annuals Plant argeratum, blue Salvia, vinca minor has blue flowers and trails(window boxes on the dog house?)
Lobelia has deep blue flowers.... good luck and i think it is a cute idea!
Reply:No one has mentioned agapanthas yet. They are perennial and, in general, bloom only once in the summer. However, if the stalk is cut as soon as the flowers are done, a second bloom will come up.
The down side to these, are snails.
Reply:veronica speedwell has blue spires
delphiniums come in blue as well as other colors
blue cardinal flowers are great
blue four o'clocks
morning glories
viola
blue butterfly bushe
sorry to tell you must flowers and plants will be DESTROYED
by a dog unless you fence in your flowerbeds to keep the dog out of the bed and in his own area
Reply:No, I don't think it is dumb at all. To the contrary, I think it is very cute and sweet !!!
Perennials--Delpheniums come in blue, Roses, Corn Flowers and so do hydrangas.
As far as others, I can't think of many.
Annuals--They have lots of light purple plants that could work, like petunias, etc.
Look around at Home Depot and Lowe's Garden Center. You may find lots of goodies !!
Also...Go to Gurney's website and check out what they have. You will be happy that you did.
Hope you dog likes the flowers and doesn't destroy or dig those posies up. :))))
Reply:My blue flowering summer perennials are Blue beard and Russian Sage, which are a nice shade of light blue
Reply:Other posters have given some very good examples. I am familiar with the following blue flowers:
1. Blue daze (evolvus). Annual. http://www.cornerstonetreefarm.com/veget...
2. Blue petunias. Annual. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalamakia/2... May be difficult to find this late in summer.
3. Blue morning glories. http://www.flickr.com/photos/capecodcycl... Vines. Annuals, but self-seed.
4. Blue salvia. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ciemor/1543... Sort of bluish-purplish. I don't plant this one, but a neighbor does; I don't know if it's an annual or a perennial.
5. Blue iris. http://www.flickr.com/photos/49503126780... Perennial. Spreads.
