You do not say what zone you are so this is just a general early spring suggestion.

Omphalodes cappadocica (navelwort): Cultivars include 'Cherry Ingram' (large, deep-blue flowers), 'Starry Eyes' (deep blue flowers outlined in pinkish white); well-drained, even moisture, light shade; April-June; The flowers stand above the leaves and are very blue.http://plants.thompson-morgan.com/produc...

Pulmonaria or lungwort is a very early bloomer with soft blue to pink blossoms. 'E.B. Anderson' or 'Blue Ensign' has some of the darkest flowers; moist but well-drained soils; partial shade, shade, but never full sun; The plant has silver specked leaves.

I am getting married in September and I was wondering what type of blue flowers are in season then?

I am getting married in Flagstaff, AZ and one of our grocery store told us they could order flowers for us...they said it would not be too expensive, and we're going to make everything floral ourselves. I just need some suggestions on common blue flowers. We're looking for a true or light blue, nothing too purple-y. Any help would be great!

You might want to make sure that they have done this before. They might think that it's a piece of cake to order flowers, but flowers being products of nature, availability of some flowers are unpredictable.

Predictable ones are those grown in greenhouse (such as roses and lilies). As to Hydrangea, some of them are grown in greehouse (those with small heads) and are available year-round. Gorgeous ones are available up untill Septemeber. So this is a close call. Unpredictable ones are "wild"-flowers grown in the field (so-called field crop); Delphinium is one of them. In the US, most Delphinium come from California. They don't have one in September. So if you want Delphinium in September, your grocer should get it from South America (Columbia). Theirs aren't as good as domestic ones, though.

Anyway, if they are experienced, they should know what flowers they should be able to get, and what flowers can be iffy. They should have a Plan-B if the flowers you want belong to the "iffy" category. They have only one shot to get this right.
Reply:hydrangea, phlox, baptista. look for an online nursery like spring hill and they will have searches for specific colored plants. good luck!
Reply:Congratulations, I may have at last found my own true love too and I am glad someone else did too. Try hydrangeas, they are pretty. Or, you could ask at one of those professional flower shops, get their advice and when they tell you, then bring it back to your grocery store and order there. It definitely won't be as expensive as a professional place would be, but you will be able to get their feedback!

I wish you the best!!!
Reply:asters should be in season about then...there's some really pretty blues and they look lovely with white or yellow roses!....

Reply:Hydrangeas comes to mind first.
Reply:hydrangeas, aconite, delphinium. There's one called bachelor's button, but that's more of a wildflower, might not be commercially grown. Another called Eryngium...blue sea holly is the common name, I think...should be somewhat available.

I'd suggest delpinium for a strong, vibrant blue, but do an images search on the others - you might like them.

What are the names of some blue flowers in Chinese?

I want to find out the names of many blue flowers in Chinese(Mandarin) for a project. Mostly flowers instead of trees. Thanks!

What are the names of some blue flowers in Chinese?
You might want to put your question in the "Languages" sub-category which is under "Society and Culture".

I've noticed that there are lots of good translations in that section. You may have better luck.

Just a suggestion. :)))

Why would pink flowers not grow on the right side of a field when the blue flowers are all over. Hypothesis?

I need to come up with a scientifice hypothesis and experiment. On a scenic drive I noticed that there are pink flowers growing on the left side of field while blue flowers were all over. I noticed a small group of trees in the middle of the field with deer sleeping under them.

Why would pink flowers not grow on the right side of a field when the blue flowers are all over. Hypothesis?
There are a few that you could use:

1. Pink flowers were introduced recently, and blue flowers have been around for a long time. The blue flowers have had enough time to spread seeds across the entire area, but the pink flowers are still trying to spread.

2. The pink flowers have different nutrient requirements than the blue flowers, and only that part of the field provides it for them. Maybe whatever is on the edge of the field (a river? a road? more trees?) is providing slightly different nutrient balances, like increased shading, or more nitrogen content in the soil. It could also be that something present in most of the field (maybe a byproduct of deer poop, or a toxic contaminant) is less in that side of the field, and pink flowers are more susceptible to death by that toxin than blue flowers.

3. The animals in the area (like the deer) prefer to eat the pink flowers over the blue flowers, so the pink flowers around the copse of trees have all been eaten, and only that small patch remains.

4. The animals in the area (like the deer) prefer to eat the blue flowers over the pink flowers, which spreads the seeds more quickly.

5. Blue flower seeds can pass safely through the deer's gut and thus get spread across the entire field, but pink flowers get damaged while passing through the deer.

6. Blue flowers out-compete the pink flowers, so that pink flowers die wherever blue flowers are growing. Their root systems might prevent the pink root systems from growing deep enough to sustain themselves, or they may absorb all of the nutrients that pink needs first.

Note that 3 and 4 are exact opposites of each other, but could create the same result on different time scales and in slightly different situations. For example, if both were introduced at the same time, and deers preferred blue flowers but don't eat many of them, #4 makes sense. On the other hand, if deers absolutely love pink flowers and eat them all of the time, it could explain why you don't see many, even though they were, at one point, growing across the entire field. That explains #3.

Also, this may not just be about deer. There is an entire ecosystem present in the field and the surrounding area. A different animal could be eating the flowers and causing this imbalance of flower color.
Reply:Maybe the seeds for the pink flowers were only spread on the

one side of the field and the seeds of the blue flowers were

spread everywhere. Also maybe the pink flowers need

more morning sunlight then the blue flowers.
Reply:something the deer are doing is changing the viability of certain strains of the same plant. this is possibly to do with

a) the deer walking on one side of the field might expose some buried seeds which out compete the others.

b) the seeds passing through the deer's gut might kill pink or blue seeds or help one type germinate faster than the other

c) the urine or faeces of the deer might help or hinder one type of flower

What happened to my large mophead flowers on my Nikko Blue Hydrangea?

I have a few Nikko blue hydrangeas about 4 or 5 years old and every year I got beautiful large blooms. This year however, I have a lot of blue flowers, but they are very small, almost looking like the lacecap variety. Can anyone tell me what happened and what I can do to bring back my large blooms next year. Also, one of the bushes is dead on one side. There are just sticks (which I did break off) and no new growth at all.

What happened to my large mophead flowers on my Nikko Blue Hydrangea?
I bet you had a late frost which stunted the already formed blooms.

Dont prune after July.

The other half dead one will have new sprouts that come out of the grnd next spring - no worries.

Blue flowers?

Does anyone know of a website I can go to that shows all the different varieties of flowers that are blue? Or at least know some names of blue flowers? I'm looking for them for a wedding bouquet that will be blue and white.

Blue flowers?

Lupine

Hyacinth

Lilac

Scabiosa

Statice

Monkshood

Lobelia

Flax

Plumbago

Bayberry

Lupine and Delphinium, with their dainty flowers arranged with a background of trailing ivy, ferns, and the leaves of your flower choice would be charming. Consider adding some white to unify things for your larger arrangements of blue wedding flowers. Cream colors, like ivory or sand, will tone down some of the brighter shades for a more delicate look. Using the same flower like Iris in both blue and yellow would both unify and decorate your reception area.
Reply:Wedding Flowers - A short list of suggestions would include cornflowers, delphinium, triteleia, agapanthus and veronica, all of which would be ideal additions to a pretty wedding bouquet or table arrangement.

Roses are the perfect focal flower for your bouquet. You could try Blue Curiosa or Cool Water which have a blue tone (if you put these names into google images you can get an idea of what they look like!!) alternatively a cream Bianca or Akito rose is lovely.
Reply:We di blue and white for my daughters wedding a few years ago. I went to the flower market in Seattle and they helped lots. THis is a question that I think an experienced person may be of more hepl than the internet and gardeners LOVE sharing their ideas on topics like this. My daughter was married the middle of July and we did the flowers ourselves. She wanted a casueal look for a beach front wedding. We used White Dahlias, roses, baby-breath, We used blue Delphiniums, hydrangia, larkspur, and also a type of butterfly bush flower called Black Night. They were beautiful and very fragrant. Good Luck.
Reply:My sister had blue hydrangeas in her wedding bouquets. Hydrangea also comes in white as well. Another blue flower is delphinum which is used a lot on floral arrangements.
