What is this plant? Commonly called "Baby Blue Eyes"?
...or at least that's what my neighbor called it. It's a dark blue flower on a long stalk and grows very well in the shade. It's perennial and the leaves are just long dark green single spears that grow out of the stem almost at a right angle. The plants spread prolifically.

By your description I think you're actually talking about blue-eyed grass, Sisyrinchium, not baby blue eyes (Nemophila). I don't know which species you have, but it's a small member of the iris family. You can divide the clumps similarly if you want to transplant or give some away.
I love blue-eyed grass, yellow-eyed grass, white-eyed grass...they're sweet pretty natives and easy to care for.
Reply:The flower is deep blue and while they're perennial aren't easy to share/transplant. I just have to dig up a big old shovelful and transplant the whole big clump. The roots don't seem to have bulbules even, just roots. Report It

in its attempt to stand up is because it is a traveller that floats
out to islands of africa, going east, and likes to climb cliffs.
this is a very nice blooming 5 times a year indoor plant. You keep the plant in average smaller pot sizes say 6 inches in 4
inches of soil covering the roots that push up, replant when a
year goes by and it pushes up a bit. Keep it deep and it will
bloom often with simple mist sprinkling. It also changes colors.
It goes into peppermint stripe, velvets and white, blue deep,
and some are groomed to show in more colors.

One of my favourites, start looking out for them towards the end of April, they should be in abundance during May, depending on weather an location.

Reply:I presume you mean the British Bluebell instead of the Spanish that is grown in gardens and hybridises with the Natural Ancient Woodland (not ploughed for over 400 years) plant which forms dense carpets of sweet smelling nodding blue flowers in April nowadays instead of in May (as they did earlier in your lifetime) due to climate changes caused by the defects of the current economic system.
It is illegal to pick or disturb any native wild plant or animal so if you want to find out about what is near you contact the local council or join the local Wildlife Trust for regular guided walks.
